Professional Builder 40 Under 40 – Brandon De Young

Brandon De Young Professional Builder Magazine - 40 Under 40Brandon De Young has been selected as one of Professional Builder Magazine’s 40 Under 40 winners for 2016. This award recognizes 40 building professionals, throughout the country, that are the next generation of leaders in the home building industry – and are all under the age of 40! According to Professional Builder Magazine, “these young leaders played key roles in growing their companies by replacing a legacy system, expanding into new markets, and mastering many other tasks.”

“I am very proud to be named a top young professional in the building industry,” said Brandon De Young of De Young Properties. “The innovation and expertise is constantly changing in the building science of new homes and I make every effort to stay at the forefront of the industry. I have had a passion for homebuilding and technology since an early age and I pride myself in industry-leading innovation to our homeowners.”

Brandon has been the pivotal factor in this, taking De Young Properties to the next-level in terms of building energy-efficient, environmentally friendly homes. He oversaw the development and implementation for both De Young EnergySmart™(sustainability/energy efficiency) and ControlSmart (home automation technology) features, which make up the De Young SmartHome program.

De Young Residence 205Then building upon his work with De Young’s EnergySmart features, Brandon developed and implemented De Young’s Zero Net Electric option in 2010, designed to reduce annual electricity usage to zero. Taking this one step further, in 2013, Brandon forged a partnership with Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) and De Young Properties to build a Zero Net Energy (ZNE) home, designed to produce as much energy as it consumes each year. This was, and still is, the only “ZNE” home in the Central San Joaquin Valley of California.

The De Young Zero Net Energy Home supports California’s Long Term Energy Efficiency Strategic Plan that requires all new residential homes in California be ZNE by 2020. The information that De Young and PG&E are collecting from this home will be used in the roadmap to achieve maximum residential energy savings in California into the future. Brandon is currently working to develop De Young’s version 2 of the ZNE home, which will be built in 2016.

We are proud of Brandon and his accomplishments thus far at De Young Properties and we cannot wait to see what he does next!
