From the Frontlines: The Hottest Home Design Trends of 2015

%image_alt%At De Young Properties, we stay current on design trends and what’s hot in home building, so you don’t have to!

Earlier this year, I attended the National Association of Home Builders International Builders Show in Las Vegas and here’s what I learned about the hottest design trends of 2015 for your home:

Pretty in… Gray?

No surprise here, but gray continues to be the dominant neutral in interior design. Add beige and a combo of the two is called, “greyeige” which is one of the hottest trending colors right now. Of course, we have already been offering our De Young customers these hot trending colors as paint options for quite a while in the De Young Design Studio. Earth tones are also trending – think limestone, palamino (a saddle color), and metallic (like bronze).

Sustainable Design Is Hot –

Americans want better, well-built, sustainable homes that look beautiful and feel comfortable, and now those desires have expanded to the overall design of the home. We have been building with Residence 210 Interior Courtyard Fireplacesustainable products for years and we are happy to report that they include design components such as high-grade, porcelain floor and counter tile, as well as Eagle brand concrete cool roof tile. These products are very durable and will last a long time so as not to waste resources by having to replace them. In addition, our cool roof tiles help keep our attics much cooler in the hot summer months.

Go Tile or Go Home –

A nice tile backsplash has always been popular, but more and more you’ll see strong monolithic shapes and bold patterns as kitchen features and at De Young, we offer an extensive collection of tile to choose from. You’ll also see the hot trend of tile floor that looks like it could be hardwood. De Young offers several of these in varying plank widths, lengths and colors to compliment your taste and style.

The Tub Stands Alone –

Freestanding tubs are hugely popular with homeowners. We totally get the appeal; in fact the 2014 St. Jude Dream Home featured a beautiful freestanding Kohler bathtub in the master bathroom suite 2014 St. Jude Dream Home Master Bathroomthat is now offered to our De Young customers as a personal selection. Also, incorporating new technologies in showers is gaining popularity like Kohler’s body sprays, rain heads or even digital showering, which is a multi-sensory fusion of music, light, steam and water!

Lighting as Jewelry –

Apparently, lighting has become the “jewelry of the home” so feature lighting, statement lighting and vintage pieces are growing in popularity. As are new light fixture finishes such as copper, bronze and antique bronze. Clean and modern lighting styles are also trending.

Whether design is the “fun part” for you, or you are overwhelmed by such decisions, the exclusive De Young Design Studio is a great resource for new De Young Properties home buyers.

By being in-the-know on the latest trends, and editing the options, our professional Design Consultants can make it fun to select from a variety of designer colors, textures and amenities to make your new home perfectly yours.
