2024 Design Trends to Give Your De Young Home a Fresher Look!

Author: Paula De Young, Executive Vice President, De Young Properties

Embracing change! After nearly 50 years of being immersed in the home building industry, I am fueled by a definite passion for keeping up-to-date with new and emerging design trends. As the co-owner of De Young Properties and, of course, a homeowner, I’ve come across some appealing new trends to be on the lookout for in 2024 that you might find enjoyable to incorporate into your home too!

It’s Cool to Be Warm

Move over cool tones, warmer colors are making a comeback. There’s been a show of restraint with a shift from stark whites and lighter grays, with more focus on warm neutrals and rich browns, especially with cabinetry. Think of pairing creamy taupes or soft whites with wood grain cabinetry. This shift provides a calm, warm, homey and inviting feeling throughout the home.

Bringing the Outdoors in Through Nature and Wellness

The indoor and outdoor connection is making its rounds into a homeowner’s sanctuary. With people spending more time at home, elements of nature are starting to appear inside. Expect to see homes with more warmth and richness, splashes of darker colors, along with more natural elements, such as wood, in unexpected places like ceilings and accent walls. Accessory pieces such as lamps and pots for plants are also great places for incorporating natural wood for an even cozier vibe.

Making a Statement

Make a statement wall with lots of color! Have fun and be bold with color blocking and warm tones. This can be achieved with either paint or wallpaper; providing the biggest impact at the lowest cost! Even consider putting the wallpaper on the ceiling; it will take less square footage of wallpaper but you get the impact look you’re going for. You can also use a vinyl wallpaper that can be easily removed and replaced for a new look as time goes by.

Solid Counters

Looking to spruce up your kitchen? Some designers are seeing installation of a slab of stone or quartz behind the range or cooktop, while keeping the surrounding backsplash tiles.

Mixed Metals

In 2024, we’re seeing more mixed metals. Silver, brass, gold and more, there’s no telling where you’ll find metals and how they will be paired in today’s new homes.
