Green Building Enthusiasts Tour De Young EnVision, Zero Energy Community*
About the Tour
Earlier this week Brandon De Young, Executive Vice President of De Young Properties, toured a number of engineers, architects and other green building enthusiasts through the construction site of one of his most proud projects to date – De Young EnVision. In celebration of Green Building Month, Brandon hosted a Zero Energy Community Tour in partnership with the US Green Building Council, inviting those interested to visit the incredible Zero Energy community in Clovis, the first of its kind in the San Joaquin Valley and the largest in the entire state of California.
Those in attendance followed Brandon as he walked them through the construction site, discussing why De Young Properties chose to make the leap to Zero Energy and what goes into making these homes capable of producing as much clean energy as they consume in a year*.
About Zero Energy
Here’s how the concept works… When the sun is shining, the home’s solar system will produce electricity for the home and send any excess back into the grid. The amount of excess sent back is based upon the homeowner’s energy use practices and how much solar production there is each day. Once the sun sets, the home will then draw electricity back from the grid to meet its needs. Over the course of a year, these homes are designed to give back as much electricity as they take from the grid, bringing the balance to zero.
