On January 28, De Young Properties celebrated the momentous milestone of building 8,000 homes for families in the Central Valley with a special ribbon cutting that took place at the nearly sold-out Upper Legacy Square community! Jerry and Paula De Young, followed by the third generation of De Young Properties, Ryan De Young, Brandon De Young and Ashley De Young-Seibert, were joined by the Ochoa family, who purchased the 8,000th home.
The Ochoa Family As a first-time homebuyer, the Ochoa family is a perfect representation of De Young Properties’ mission to help families fulfill the American Dream of homeownership – something they’ve now done for 8,000 families over the past 48 years.
Choosing a home can be fun and exciting, but there’s a lot a homeowner must ask themselves before finding their dream home. You’ll no doubt see many similarities among today’s top homebuilders, but make no mistake: all homes are not created equal. De Young Properties’ unique and trusted qualities, along with the commitment to its valued customers is what allows the homebuilder to stand apart in the industry.
“My family and I were so happy during our homebuilding journey because we really felt like we were a part of the process from start to finish,” said Michele Ochoa, homeowner of De Young Properties’ 8,000th home. “We really appreciated the email updates and videos from their SmartJourney Program. If someone were to ask us ‘why’ choose De Young Properties, it would have to be the experience from the De Young Sales team to the Customer Service Care team, who took care of us every step of the way!”
When it comes to building your dream home, De Young Properties is a design innovator and leader. Each space is thoughtfully designed and crafted for the best homeowner experience.
“We looked at a variety of used homes and new builds prior to coming to De Young Properties,” said Ochoa. “As soon as we stepped foot in a De Young model home, everything felt right. The De Young homes are beautiful and have a great selection of unique floorplans.”
The 8,000th home purchased by the Ochoa family is the 210 Residence Icon Series. This expansive, single-story home features 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a 3-car tandem garage, as well as a gourmet kitchen which opens to the great room and a cozy nook. There is a distinctive open-air courtyard with an optional fireplace at the center of the home creating a versatile outdoor living space and entertaining area that provides a beautiful flow of natural light into the surrounding rooms, merging the home’s indoor-outdoor features. This floorplan incorporates leading edge building science technology and includes Advance Framed 2x6 Walls and the trusted quality and innovation of a De Young Properties home.
A Family Passion for Homebuilding Still Runs Strong The vision of De Young Properties began with late Valley homebuilder, John Bonadelle, father to Paula De Young. Bonadelle started building homes post WWII, where he then discovered his passion for helping families gain homeownership. That same drive was instilled in Paula, fueling the passion that she has today for the homebuilding industry. Paula’s first job was at the age of 10 working in her father’s office as an assistant to the receptionist. With exposure to the homebuilding industry at such a young age, Paula knew she wanted to follow in her father’s footsteps and pursue a career in homebuilding, continuing the legacy of helping other families gain homeownership and building a better community in which we live.
While still in college, Paula and her husband, Jerry De Young continued the legacy with the creation of their own homebuilding company in 1974, known today as De Young Properties. The company’s first 300 homes were built in Madera County within the Bonadelle Ranchos and Madera Ranchos. Paula, Jerry and their team sold one of their first homes within the Madera Ranchos off Avenue 17 and Road 37 to Greg and Denee Conner.

“My husband and I were first-time homebuyers when we purchased our home from Paula and her team,” says Denee Conner. “It was an unusual time, because landlords were allowed to restrict children from living in their rental units. That didn’t work for us. At the time we were pregnant with our first child, in our first year of marriage, and were young with very little resources. With an eviction notice in hand, we began to explore our options. Paula and her team were sympathetic and knew this home would not only provide housing for our growing family, but also send us on the investment path.”
Greg & Denee Conner Now 48 years later and led by its third generation, De Young Properties’ family legacy of building quality-crafted homes for families to achieve the American Dream of homeownership remains at the forefront. De Young Properties’ homes are built with the same quality it started with and continues to push the envelope, incorporating the most advance building sciences to ensure the homes are not only beautiful, but sustainable – contributing to a better community and environment.
