A Look Into The World of Color

A Look Into The World of Color

What to expect in 2017 paint trends

When creating a home, there are a lot of components that go into the design. You have the furniture, the lighting, the floors, and the focal point that brings everything in the room together. One aspect of design that may get overlooked, but is vital to your home design, is the wall colors. Some may think, “Just slap a neutral color on every wall.” Simple, easy, and it will most likely match everything. And that may work for some people! But here at De Young Properties, we want to give you a look into the world of color and what a splash of blue or an accent of pink can really do for your future home in 2017.

Poised Taupe Perfection

Looking for the color that can go in any room? That can create a sanctuary in your home? Makes you feel restored and balanced when you enter? Meet Poised Taupe, Sherwin Williams’ color of the year for 2017. I am being serious, living, dining, bedroom, kitchen, even the man cave. It is that versatile, interesting and calming. It is a natural balance between grey and brown and has a very broad appeal that can translate to create a cozy, warm environment that you won’t want to leave.

Is Grey the New White?

Grey has made an entrance and isn’t headed towards the exit anytime soon. From soft to dark, greys will continue to be popular in 2017. It gives a little extra vibrancy than the plain white wall. Grey is a good choice when you are in need of a little more definition to the walls.

Purple for an Accent Wall

Purple? Our thoughts exactly…

Purple, however, can add that touch of playfulness to the room. It can take a room full of neutral greys and or sandy browns and really make the room come to life. “Mature Grape” from Sherwin-Williams seems to be a tending purple for 2017. Keep an eye out for it because, sure enough, it will make an appearance in upcoming homes, likely paired with Poised Taupe.

Light and Airy Yellow Walls

So you have a wall that seems like it needs a little love. It just kind of stands alone, feeling heavy, and is in need of some boldness. Look no further; yellow is the way to go. Now, we aren’t talking about sunflower, happy faces, bumblebee bright kind of yellow; we’re talking about a light and airy yellow. This yellow will make the room feel happy without making your eyes widen and adjust. The great thing about yellow is that there is a shade for everyone. So go do some exploring and find a yellow that will work for you in 2017.

Mid-Century Modern Pinks

What do you think when you think pink? Bows, rainbows, and happiness? Your daughters playing dress up and wanting to wear bright pink lipstick? These are all wonderful images of pink…but not quite the pink that will be coming in 2017. Take a step back and think modern; deep pinks that have a hint of warmness to them. This is what we’re referring to. For those of you who like the modern look and want to add a splash of color to your walls, consider a light “Bella Pink” or a textured “Resounding Rose.” They work great in small wall designs to compliment the surrounding area.

Green for Accents

Green is a bold color that can really grab the eye. For 2017, we are suggesting a splash of green here and there. Avoid painting the entire room green, especially deep greens. You don’t want to make the room look smaller than it is. Try painting a bathroom or painting one of the bedroom walls in order to break up the surrounding wall color. It will give your room a little extra pizzazz. Make others ask themselves, “Why did they paint only one wall green? I’m not sure but it sure looks great!”
