The De Young construction team is working closely with our trade partners to complete homes as efficiently as possible; however, we continue to see delays in the field.
Our trade partners are still handling labor challenges with social distancing and the exponential growth of new construction in Fresno County. Every builder in our area has experienced a significant increase in sales and demand and as a result the trade partners, who usually work for multiple builders, are extremely busy. In addition, the availability of materials has become increasingly more challenging. The disruption of supply chains due to the ramifications of COVID-19, and the recent freeze in Texas, have had a dramatic impact on the availability of key building materials. For example, the disruption of Resin production during the Texas freeze is having a domino effect on the availability of key building products such as bath tubs, electrical outlet covers, drywall mud, insulation, sinks, radiant barrier insulation, etc. In addition, we continue to see delays in the delivery of finish materials such as tile, laminate flooring, appliances, stainless steel kitchen sinks, and HVAC condensing units. Our trade partners are mitigating these shortages by ordering products earlier than normal and working with multiple suppliers around the country.
Although it seems the world is moving towards “normalcy,” the construction industry is still heavily impacted by the unprecedented events of this last year.
