Think of Alexa as a virtual personal assistant, just like Siri on Apple phones and tablets. She can give you the weather, tell the time, add things to your to-do list, play music, and the list goes on and on. To ask Alexa for something, simply say her name and then the command. She’s quick, has great “hearing”, is very intelligent, and is quite witty, too!
As mentioned above, you can also link the Echo with the SmartThings Hub, which is included with ourDe Young ControlSmart technology. In doing so, you can easily control lights, among many other SmartHome devices just by verbally asking Alexa to do it for you!
Setup SmartThings by plugging your Hub into power and internet, then create an account via the free Apple, Android, or Windows apps, and follow the simple in-app instructions to link your account with the Hub.
Pair your smart light outlet with your Hub, name it Christmas tree, plug it into the wall outlet, and then plug your Christmas tree lights into it.
Setup the Amazon Echo by plugging into power, download the free Amazon Alexa app (Apple or Android), and then follow the simple in-app instructions to connect the Echo to your home’s Wi-Fi.
In the Amazon Alexa app, tap the settings button, then tap Settings, scroll down and tap Connected Home, then tap Link with SmartThings.
From here you’ll just need to type in your SmartThings account username and password to link it with the Echo. Then follow the instructions to select which of your SmartThings devices you want Echo to be able to control (remember to select your Christmas tree outlet).
Finally, tap Discover Devices in the Connected Home settings screen to have Echo officially link to the devices you selected in the previous screen.
Please note that Amazon Echo is not available for purchase through De Young Properties, but can be purchased directly from Amazon.
